Japan Revisited - Hiroshima, Miyajima, Kojima & Kurashiki

Day 6

Today we checked out of our Airbnb and catch a Shinkansen to Hiroshima. From Hiroshima we will be visiting Miyajima Island, Kojima and Kurashiki which is close by.

It was a wet and cold day and luckily it was a very light shower. Travelling by Shinkansen is really comfortable and convenient, for this journey by road in a car will take between 4 to 5 hours, with the Shinkansen an hour an a half. Frequency of train plenty.

When we arrived in Hiroshima it was still raining and so we decided to go get lunch first since it was already pass lunch time. It was not a problem deciding what to eat because we had pre-planned to have Hiroshima style Okonomiyaki which is also their "soul food". They have a building that houses 25 okonomiyaki stalls and is called Okonomimura or Okonomiyaki Village.😊

Once in the building it was quite difficult to make a decision which stall should we have our lunch and so we just picked one without knowing what to expect. We made our order and got our tummy filled.

Let our lunch begin!

The portion is huge and we shared one which is normally for one. This stall is frequented by Hiroshima Carp base ball team.

After our meal we decided to do some in the bus tour since it was a cold and wet day. We had the JR pass we rode on all three hop on hop off routes which is called "Hiroshima Meipu ru-pu", so we covered the whole of Hiroshima in just a couple of hours 😊.

Day 7

Today we make our way to Miyajima island. This is the first time we are taking a ferry boat and visiting an island in Japan.

Since it was still early when we return to Hiroshima, we decided to catch up what we missed yesterday because of the rain. So we catch the loop bus once again to do our touristy bid πŸ˜€

From the Castle we headed to the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park and the A-Bomb Dome is the first thing we saw.

We were there on a weekday and I guess we were the only foreigner. There were a couple of locals wandering around so I guess it is a weekend place and mainly locals.

After a quick lunch we made our way to Kurashiki to explore the Kurashiki Bikan Historical Quarter which is a short train ride away.

Story of the town.

After Kurashiki we made our way back to Hiroshima for the night before heading to Fukuoka the next morning.
